These experiments offered a wide range of options for weight loss, nutrient intake, and fat reduction. Many people ate plenty of fruits and vegetables but avoided meat and processed foods. The results became even more interesting when the researchers began analyzing the details to see if the diet could prevent negative feelings.

Who Benefits the Most From This Diet?

First of all, seafood diet programs tend to be more effective for women, why? Firth suspects that women are more likely to benefit from differences in hormonal balance and metabolism than men. She believes they are more prone to depression and are more disciplined in their diets than their male counterparts. Firth also claims that diet programs work better when guided by a dietitian. How can all this research inform our shopping lists? People who ate fast food, sweets, and Western desserts were more prone to depression. A healthy, balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, seafood, and other nutrients, or a Mediterranean diet richer in olive oil, legumes, dairy, and alcohol, appears to be more effective in preventing depression.
